Old Man In Nursing Home Reacts To Hearing Music From His Era.

Sometimes I forget what music can do to people. Things like this remind me once again, and I'm humbled and reminded how I should and could use music to heal.

This Year For Lent…

posted by on 02.21.13 at 5:28 am

I'm giving up deep fried foods (Fried rice doesn't count) and fast foods! So this is going to be my first workout post of many. If you're following me on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, you probably know by now that I've been hitting the gym hardcore. It has been a few months now and I'm seeing results. There are many things that helped spark the interest of bodybuilding and staying fit/athletic. The #1 reason being because of all that I've learned in nursing school, I want to be as healthy as possible. This post will be a first of my many workout posts. Today I'll be highlighting my diet, the supplements I'm taking, and my routine.

TOY FAIR 2013!

posted by on 02.17.13 at 1:47 am Featured

(Click thumbnail of photos to enlarge)

So this year, I had the privilege to attend the 2013 Toy Fair which is run by Toy Association. The event was from 2/16-2/19 but because of school I only attended that Sunday. With the craziness of Blizzard Nemo, and having Saturday and Sunday clinicals, everything just happened to work out perfectly so that I was able to attend! I figured after my long hiatus from WTFoodge, this would be THE POST to break it. Well enough of that talk, let's get into the meat and potatoes of Toy Fair 2013! I attended as a (sponsored?) guest thanks to some hook-ups at Toy Association. There were some booths that I was looking forward to seeing this year but they weren't there; Nerf being the main one :( . Lego also had their booth sealed off for only media personnel or buyers. This year, I decided to attend the toy fair last minute, but next year I might actually go for a media badge.

There were some awesome booths, but since I'm sure there are a bunch of Toy Fair posts on the internets about the event as a whole, I'd like to highlight three of my favorite ones.

Zing Toys

What was awesome about Zing? Well they had random archery stations throughout the fair where they allowed people to fire at monster targets. The representatives of Zing were super nice despite the fact that we were only "guests". Usually sellers are more interested in buyers and they would shun away those with "guest badges". We had a chance to try out their Z-Curve Bow, I think the most fulfilling part was being able to shoot my friend haha. I don't know about you guys, but ever since watching Lord of the Rings and seeing Legolas work the bow, I went around buying bow and arrows from Dick Sporting Goods. The only problem was, I am in college and every time I tried using a real bow and arrow in my dorm, it would either be ridiculously dangerous or nothing would be far enough for me to actually shoot without breaking the arrow. Needless to say, real bow and arrows are NOT allowed in the dorm rooms. Let me tell you, I spent most of my time in this booth during the fair because it was fracking AWESOME. If you have never tried out any of their products, GO DO IT! Well at least the Z-Curve Bow. It doesn't require any strength to fire and you'll find yourself shooting the suction arrow at random solid objects for hours.I didn't get a chance to try out anything else so I don't really have a say in that. ON A BRIGHT SIDE HOWEVER, I received the contact information of the head of public relations and we might work something out where I do a review on a product(s) and do a giveaway(s). The requirements would probably be to like their fb page and follow them on twitter, but we'll see! Come back soon for more details :) .

Ninja Cards

Another booth I enjoyed was the Ninja Cards booth. There is something really edifying and liberating about throwing cards at Styrofoam and watching it pierce through. Maybe I just really like breaking things...The problem was that I sucked at throwing those cards haha. I think I threw a total of 20 cards and only hit the target two times. Regardless, it was pretty fun and if it wasn't for my lack of skill I would've stayed longer, but I gathered whatever dignity I had left and went to another booth. Again, this is one of those things that you'd probably find yourself playing with for hours if you like destroying things! That or you just enjoy hitting targets.

GIBBON

I don't know what it was, but there was a trend in the Toy Fair: My favorite toys were the ones that I was horrible at using. Something about me being bad at using it made me want to improve. Of my top three favorite toys, Gibbon was probably the one I was worst at. It was simply just a strong piece of strap that you would try to cross from one end to another. So simple yet so challenging. My balance is absolutely horrible so you could probably imagine how bad my performance was, but my friend did pretty well. The trick is to raise your arms up in the air and look at the end destination. Apparently the right term for this activity "Slacklining" and it's a pretty big deal on the west coast. Being from New York City, I've only seen something similar to this once or twice where people tied a rope to two trees and tried crossing the rope that way. I can see this being a pretty good workout. I'm taking fitness pretty seriously, especially after learning so much in nursing school and at the very least it will improve your balance...BY A LOT. Watch out for these guys, because I can see them blowing up in the next couple of years.

Overall, I had a blast in this year's Toy Fair, and I would recommend people to attend next year. It'll bring out the kid you have in you that you've allowed to lay dormant all these years as you explore thousands upon thousands of different toys. My friend who works for Toy Association (the company that runs the whole show) told me that if you were to walk the whole thing, meaning you go through all the booths, it would be seven miles. That is quite impressive. Well that's all I have for this post. Hope you guys enjoyed it, and here are some random photos from the fair. PEACE.

I’M BACK LADIES!

posted by on 02.15.13 at 2:12 am

YOU KNOW IT'S BAD WHEN I HAD TO TYPE MY PASSWORD 5x BECAUSE I FORGOT IT FOR WTFOODGE! Well, people have been asking and after a long hiatus I decided to come back. I didn't like the feel of posting random videos just because it's nice to post, I'm going to make some changes around WTFoodge. To some it might be subtle, to others it might be a huge difference. I'm going to focus more on things of my interest and just some adventures I've been going on recently. I'm adding a few writers and taking out some (There won't be a big difference considering most of them, including me, have stopped posting). Table Tennis, bodybuilding, random adventures, nursing, amongst other things will be my primary focus. I went to a toy fair a couple of weeks ago and tomorrow I'll be posting about that. Oh, and regarding the picture above, I'm not gay. There was a professional artist making free caricatures by our school during lunch and my friend from nursing school, Nick and I decided to have fun by telling the dude that we were intimately in love. The product above was what came out of it. SEE YOU GUISE SOON. PEACE.
