DAMN that’s a big number.
Scientific America, says that US workers waste $2.8 billion annually in energy costs by failing to shut off their PCs. This stat is actually take from the 2009 PC Energy Report, a report done by 1E that shows findings on computer energy usage in the UK, US and Germany. The report also states that PCs and monitors account for 29% of all the IT industry’s emissions, which is equal to 43.9 million cars.
I guess the lesson here is to turn off your computers at night. But I leave my computer on forever. The only time I turn it off is if I know I’m not going to be using it the next day, which is almost never. I don’t turn it off cause I don’t like waiting for it to turn on. Sometimes I’ll put it into sleep mode, which is like half turning off your computer, but I’ve been running Windows 7 lately and the beta has some problems with sleep and hibernation so I’ve just been leaving it on.
Screw the environment.

Shit man, I leave my computer at work on all the time, talk about counter productive! An energy company wasting energy is unheard of, but the boot times on those computers are horrible. If I close them, I'd have to get to work 5 minutes earlier to make up for boot time. Oh well.
