I saw this on my friend Simon's blog, and being from Brooklyn, I know EXACTLY what he's talking about! And with that said...

So i know im kinda stealing from joel here by posting this before him. And i apologize in advance, its just that this is so cool. And I would really want to try it out. I'm pretty sure its a new type of paddle cause i've never seen anything like this, although im a noob and could be wrong. But basically your hand goes through the paddle so its kinda like playing handball. The website, Brodmann Blades has some info on it and places where you can buy it. The cheapest price i can find is $99 at paragon sports as opposed to the $100 price tag at other retailers.
We’re pretty into ping pong here. Joel and I play every week at the Stony Brook Table Tennis Club (warning: ugly and outdated website) and we’re also on the team. It’s kind of a weird sport but extremely fun. You have all sorts of players using all sorts of different equipment. I’ve seen a lot of paddles before but this is probably the weirdest of them all.
I’ve never seen a paddle like this. It’s so WEIRD. It was designed by Fredi Brodmann. Apparently its supposed to “improve accuracy, control and swing” but I doubt it. It’ll probably be useful for those kids who play handball since it will be like hitting with their hand.
I think ITTF rules state something like the wooden part of the paddle, the blade, has to be 85% wood and maintain a consistent shape? So this paddle probably ITTF approved. The rubber on the other hand is a different story. They have to be ITTF approved with a stamp and everything.
You can get the set with two paddles, two wristbands and four ping pong balls at uncommongoods.com for $100. Yeah that seems kind of expensive but it’s not. There are paddles WAY more expensive than that.
