I don’t know how many computer geeks we have here reading WTFoodge but I, as a computer geek, found this powerless air cooler by MSI to be totally awesome.
Usually, fans in your computer are powered by electricity from the power supply unit but this new fan from MSI is powered heat from the northbridge.
How does it work? The fan itself is a stirling engine, which is a “heat engine that operates using cyclic compression and expansion of air or other gas at different temperature levels” says Wiki. Basically heat causes pressure changes in the engine which causes a piston to move and rotate the fan.
Here’s a demo of it, though its only a 3d representation.
This is a great idea by MSI to use all that wasted heat in your computer but I’m not too sure how efficient it’ll be or how much this thing would cost. A great idea, nonetheless.
Ken Morrish picked this awesome split-colored apple from his garden. At first he thought it was a bunch of pranksters who painted the apple but upon closer inspection, realized the split colors were natural.
'It looks as if a green apple and a red apple has been cut in half and stuck together,' he said. 'I couldn't believe my eyes. It's absolutely phenomenal.
'The red and green split through the stem is totally perfect - as if I've painted it. It's a genuine one-off and none of us have ever seen an apple like it before.'
Experts say that the odds of finding an apple with such a perfect line between the green and the red are more than 1million to one.
I say we get a bunch of scientists to research this so we can all eat split-colored apples. I bet they taste amazing.

Both the green and the “blue” spirals are the same color. No, I am not shitting you.
In order to be more “green”, Google has hired a bunch of goats to replace lawnmowers that normally cut the grass at Google HQ. Yeah. Goats.
At our Mountain View headquarters, we have some fields that we need to mow occasionally to clear weeds and brush to reduce fire hazard. This spring we decided to take a low-carbon approach: Instead of using noisy mowers that run on gasoline and pollute the air, we've rented some goats from California Grazing to do the job for us (we're not "kidding"). A herder brings about 200 goats and they spend roughly a week with us at Google, eating the grass and fertilizing at the same time. The goats are herded with the help of Jen, a border collie. It costs us about the same as mowing, and goats are a lot cuter to watch than lawn mowers.
This is a pizza box made from 100% recycled materials with perforations in it that can be teared, turning the box into four plates and a left over box. The concept is so simple that I’m surprised people haven’t thought of this before. It’s called the GreenBox and is designed by e.c.o.
