Only in Japan would they let an adolescent girl wrestle with a grown man. This is so ridiculously stupid that it's hilarious! Wtfoodge is going on?! I'm pretty sure that would be illegal in the US, even though it's fake, promoting idea of HITTING a 9 year old would be illegal!

posted by on 02.22.11 at 12:43 am

Tokyo-based USB accessory maker Thanko announces the MAME-CAM, it looks like a tiny toy, but it's actually a fully-functioning camera that can take real-deal pictures. It is a 2MP camera, weighs just 11g, can take still picture at 1,600×1,200, and records video in 640×480 resolution (AVI, at 30fps). The MAME-CAM supports microSD cards holding up to 32GB and has a battery life of about 36 minutes(when shooting video)

What the H?! THIS THING IS ADORABLE! I want one! Actually, I'm kind of broke at the moment, but dang this thing is SO CUTE! You can buy it on this Japanese site for $95.

Does Japan owe its current robot technology to the Turks?

posted by on 02.11.11 at 4:32 pm

(the picture above is artists rendering of the robot and its maker from the 1900s)

So, I just read this article about how the Ottoman's sent a gift to the Japanese in the late 1800s. The gift was a clock which resembled a whirling dervish (almost at human size) which would sing the azan (islamic call to prayer) 5 times a day, spin, and it would walk forward and walk back to its original spot. Apparently, it was the first robot ever made in history, and some say, helped lead the Japanese towards a technological revolution. Click here to read the full article. Thanks Erdinc!
